Marina Eshuis
A Collection of a Lifetime
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Starting 21 November, Rijksmuseum Twenthe will present highlights from the remarkable collection of modern art that Marina Eshuis (1934–2024) built up over the course of her life. The Twente collector left behind a personal collection featuring works by leading artists of the twentieth century.
In November 2025, Rijksmuseum Twenthe and the Cultural Heritage Agency received a unique donation of modern art works from the estate of Twents collector Marina Eshuis (1934-2024). She donated her personal collection of no fewer than 150 works by acclaimed artists of the 20th century, including Marc Chagall, Corneille, Lucebert and Theo Wolvecamp.
Her collection began in the 1940s with the purchase of three paintings by Jan Sluijters by Marina’s parents. Their daughter went on to expand the private collection into one of the region’s finest. In her home in Tubbergen, Marina literally lived surrounded by art: paintings covered the walls and sculptures topped the tables and furniture.
This presentation displays the collection’s highlights: the three paintings by Sluijters that started it all, and seven works by Belgian artist Roger Raveel, one of Marina’s favourite painters. Rijksmuseum Twenthe will regularly place new works from the collection on display over the next few years.
